HOW FROST AND RIPPER CAME ABOUT — Ray Hoy
“Jack Frost is a composite of three Special Forces men I was fortunate enough to have met early in my casino career. They’re gone now, victims of their chosen profession, but they’re not forgotten, I can assure you; they were amazing men doing an amazing job. One of the guys had a Doberman called ‘Scorpio’ and he was impressive, to put it mildly. Scorpio's gone now, too, but I used him as a model for J.T. Ripper in my Frost series."
ABOUT J.T. RIPPER: “The Ripper that I created is a wilder version of Scorpio, and I get as much fan mail for him as I do for Frost (sorry, Jack). I have no idea why, because my Ripper is grumpy and testy, and he likes an occasional taste of Scotch whiskey. I conjured him up to be 36 inches at the shoulder, and weighing in at 150 pounds, all muscle, teeth and downright nastiness." — Ray Hoy
TAKE A BREAK — Ray Hoy
"Occasionally I need a break from writing my Jack Frost thriller books, so I head for my favorite Alaskan lake for a little trout fishing. It's amazing how a few hours on tranquil water gets the creative juices flowing again. Try it."
TIME TO 'FESS UP — Ray Hoy
"My Jack Frost tales are loosely based on characters I met during my two decades in the Nevada gaming business. Are my stories connected in any way to actual events? Not quite. If they were, I’d probably have to go to jail for not coming forward with pertinent information. Let’s just say that the casino business generates more than its fair share of nearly unbelievable stories, and let it go at that."
